Dubai is known for luxury, architecture, and futuristic skylines. But just outside the city lies one of the most visually powerful locations for photography — the desert.
For this session, we photographed a couple in the area known locally as Half Desert, just outside Dubai. It’s a location that feels almost cinematic by default — endless sand dunes, open roads, and that warm golden light that makes every frame look like a film still.
This wasn’t a typical engagement shoot.
It was a mix of editorial photography, cinematic storytelling, and a touch of adrenaline.
A Love Story That Started in Dubai
Although they now both live in Dubai, their story is truly international.
He is originally from Croatia, while she comes from South Africa. Their paths crossed in Dubai — a city where people from all over the world come to build their lives and careers.
Both of them work in aviation:
She is a flight attendant for Flydubai
He flies for Emirates
Despite their busy schedules in the sky, Dubai became the place where their story began.
Interestingly, neither of them are professional models. Yet in front of the camera they move with a natural elegance that many professional models would envy.
And their story will soon continue in a new chapter.
They are planning their wedding this September in the beautiful coastal town of Rovinj.
Half Desert – A Perfect Location for Desert Photography
The Half Desert location is one of those places that feels almost designed for photography.
What makes it so special?

These elements create a clean canvas for luxury editorial photography.
The couple wore all black outfits, which created a striking contrast against the warm desert tones. The wind moving through the fabric added movement and emotion to many of the frames.

Behind the Scenes – Capturing Adrenaline with GoPro
We also captured some behind-the-scenes moments for a reel, using a special car rig setup.
To achieve this, we mounted a camera system directly on the car using the SMALLRIG Double-Layer Suction Cup Mount (SC-1K – 4275).
The setup included:

dual ball head with 360° rotation
phone/action camera holder
and a GoPro Hero 12
This allowed us to film dynamic shots during a fast desert drive, capturing the movement, wind, and raw energy of the environment.
The result?
A mix of cinematic editorial photography and adrenaline-driven video content, perfect for modern storytelling and social media reels.
Editorial Shooting with a Mustang in the Desert
One of the most exciting elements of the shoot was incorporating a Mustang into the visual story.
The car added a strong editorial energy to the session — something that felt halfway between fashion photography and a cinematic road story.
The contrast between:

created a powerful visual mood.
It gave the shoot an edge of adrenaline and movement, something that works beautifully for cinematic couple sessions.
